The future of newspapers

Interesting discussion yesterday with the chief business editor of a leading German newspaper about the future of print media. I told him about a colleague recently commenting that – his own best guess – within two years, there wouldn’t be any free editorial content any more on the web. My colleague thought that mircopayments would enable media to charge for content. The editor’s view was stunningly different; he agreed there might not be free editorial content, but rather because major media would pull out of the web altogether! Question was only who would have the guts to be first… Food for thought indeed.
